Grassroots football is in need of a revolution. Good outcomes for girls are not trickling down from the top of the pyramid. Girls are learning from a young age to accept a world where their aspirations are often not taken seriously enough and that they’re powerless to do anything about it. We are determined to change that narrative and empower girls to be game changers. Our house program is just the beginning.
Our program is structured around six “houses” based on our six local primary schools.
We believe our unique house structure supports our girls to be able to take our values and objectives back to their schools, and become role models who inspire their peers and younger girls to also want to participate in football (or another sport) and develop similar skills, friendships, and support networks.
We are determined to also support our girls to be driving forces in maximising the potential for their actual school football programs to be as consistently successful as possible.
Four girls are selected from each year from each school based on their application to participate. Our key criteria for selection are:
While welcome, applicants do not require their current technical or physical capabilities to be above average.
Our program is focused on both the individual and the collective, looking to build not just the player but the person, as well as a positive support network around them.
We are determined to be grassroots game changers by striving to provide a football education for all our members, and raising both the ceiling and the floor for what the average local girl can achieve via sport
While we don’t rush to graduate players to bigger field and team sizes before they’re physically, technically, and tactically ready, our main formats for each age would likely look like:
Much of our program is based around small-sided versions of the game that each provide unique learning and play opportunities, while progressively developing the fundamentals that empower each player to be able to actually play the standard game proactively (and without instruction).
Such versions of the game draw heavily from the formats and principles of Funino and Scoreboard Soccer.
Each house year group of four girls requires a volunteer parent or guardian to be their House Leader. Our key criteria for selection are:
While current football ability or knowledge is welcome, it is not required. Our Technical Director will be present at every session to support House Leaders on their journey of learning our activities and principles, with each activity usually involving at least two House Leaders supporting each other too.
Ideally, we’d like at least 50% of our House Leaders to be women.
Our program runs from October to September over two semesters, Summer (Term 4 & 1) and Winter (Term 2 & 3), with three sessions each week over a 40 week period.
We are determined to help members of our community be more active throughout the year, physically and socially, while maintaining a consistent timetable for our program from year to year that is easy to plan other rewarding activities around.
This consistency and convenience makes it so much easier for girls and families to potentially develop and maintain incredibly rewarding lifelong friendships.
An example of how our upcoming / current program schedule would look like for the first three years of participation can be explored below.
Our program is based locally in 2527 and structured to encourage our members to develop a closer connection to (and a sense of pride for) the wider local community that is the home of one of the most fulfilling aspects of their lives.
Less time travelling enables more time for girls to play and socialise, and to contribute towards making our community feel like a home away from home for local girls and their families.
Our current program location plans are:
October-March: Di Gorman Oval
April-September: Albion Oval
Potential Future Base: Calderwood
