The greatest resource we have to aid us in achieving our goals are good people, with whom we can create and maintain a positive culture based on our shared values and objectives. Challenges are so much easier to overcome with a patient, caring, and social support network.
The Valley Way is the process we follow where we always look to consider
in all our decision making in order to improve outcomes , to successfully build and maintain a positive and rewarding culture, and to achieve our game changing objectives.
We want to be the best versions of ourselves.
We are not afraid of challenges.
We don’t see mistakes as failures but opportunities to do better and grow.
We enjoy bringing out the best in each other.
We want to be role models to inspire and support others to grow.
We appreciate how much more we can achieve together.
We want to be as open as possible about everything. If we are to inspire others to be the best versions of themselves, we cannot hide from potential criticism ourselves. If others are able to use what we’re open about to do what we do better elsewhere, that’s great!
We want to ensure that our values are always represented. If we are to be a unique community asset that is valued and safeguarded (rather than a service to be used and taken for granted), then any fresh or innovative ideas must reflect our values.
We want to be held to a high (but fair) standard that encourages excellence. If we are to strive for the best possible outcomes, we cannot afford a culture that enables complacency or deviations from our values.
We want to always be looking for solutions to poor outcomes (rather than excuses). If we are aspiring to raise game changers who strive to make a difference on and off the field, then that culture must start from the top.
We want to develop the execution of core technical skills like striking the ball, first touch, running with the ball, and attacking/defending 1v1, so that players have the confidence to both shine individually and contribute to the collective.
We want to develop the ability of players to intelligently perceive football situations so that they’re able to decide upon the most effective execution of their technical ability for the benefit of their team.
We want to develop core physical abilities like agility, balance, acceleration, speed, stamina, and strength, so that players are capable of executing the technical skills they want, when they want.
We want to develop a growth mindset within our players where they enjoy being able to better themselves and overcome challenges. We want players with high emotional intelligence to be role models for both their peers and younger players.
We want to develop the ability of players to form and maintain positive relationships. We want players to contribute towards a safe and caring environment, and to learn to cherish memorable moments with each other.
We want coaches who are interested in understanding themselves and why one coaches the way they do. We want our coaches to grow the humility to respect multiple perspectives, the curiosity to try to understand them, the creativity to explore them, the adaptability to be flexible between the maintenance of high standards and a benevolent culture, and (most importantly) to be kind.
We want coaches who are interested in understanding others and developing meaningful relationships. We want coaches who look to model the behaviour that we want from players, and strive to be deliberate with their language and actions in order to develop responsibility, autonomy, trust, communication, feedback, and life skills from players.
We want coaches who are interested in creating a positive and high performing culture that enables both individuals and the collective to thrive. We want an environment where every player feels cared for by their coach and teammates, and supported to achieve the goals set out in their age-specific individual development plans.
We want coaches who are interested in developing their knowledge of the game, learning, and skill acquisition practices. We want coaches who understand that knowledge can’t be downloaded to players and that coaches must be thoughtful in their approach to enable players to learn in a manner where they can both absorb and retain knowledge.
We want to make our community systemically easy to support, so that parents, guardians, and others have more time, energy, and interest to contribute towards sustaining a positive culture.
We want to be a community that connects people in positive ways, providing rewarding interaction and a meaningful support network.
We want to be a community that is proactively seeking to provide as much value as possible for the contribution required, so that we feel like a precious asset (rather than just a service).
We want to be able to meaningfully give back to people and organisations that contribute towards us being able to successfully deliver positive outcomes. We want to be an asset that our wider community feel proudly represented by and enjoy engaging with.
We want to build genuine partnerships with our wider community that enable us to deliver sustainably better outcomes. We want to be in positions to earn grants to assist in achieving our goals because we are relentlessly striving for wider community objectives that go beyond football.
